Russell Brand was a drug-addict for 11 years

London, Sept 30 : Comedian Russell Brand used to take heroin everyday for 11 years - and was even told that he'd die if he didn't stop.

The British funnyman revealed that he was hooked to drugs to such an extent that he was even warned that he would end up in prison if he continued taking it.

"The first time I took heroin, I took heroin every day until I stopped 11 years later," The Daily Express quoted him, as saying.

He added: "They said, 'If you don't stop taking drugs now you'll be dead, in a mental asylum, or in prison within six months'."

But, Brand has confessed that despite quitting drugs in 2003, he can still be a wildman.

"I still have little explosions of self-destruction," he said.

Brand hosted this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
