Rail blockade in Sealdah-Ranaghat division

Barrackpore, Sep 30 (UNI) Train services in the Sealdah-Ranaghat section of the Eastern Railway remained suspended for several hours today as local residents raised a blockade on the railway tracks near Agarpara under Khardah police station in North 24 Parganas.

The blockade, which caused inconvenience to thousands of commuters, had been raised by the local residents in protest against the waterlogging in Panihati and Kamarhati municipal areas following incessant rains during the past week.

Hundreds of agitators squatted on the railway tracks, blocking movement of trains.

Later, GRP personnel at the Agarpara station managed to lift the blockade.
