K'taka bypolls in time: CEC
Bangalore, Sep 30 (UNI) Byelections to eight Karnataka Legislative Assembly seats will be held before the expiry of the stipulated six months time, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami said today.
Talking to newspersons after inaugurating the Mass Manufacturing Facility at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), which manufactures Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), here, he said the elections would be held in accordance with law.
The seats fell vacant following the death of a sitting legislator and resignation of seven MLAs to join the ruling BJP party.
The vacant seats were Doddaballapur, Koratagere, Turuvekere, Karwar, Devadurga, Arabhavi, Chikodi and Maddur.
