HC directs MCD to submit report on Jama Masjid beautification
New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed the Delhi Muncipal Corporation (MCD) to submit its revised report regarding the beautification of the Jama Masjid by December 10.
Reacting to the allegations made by a petitioner, Varun Goswami, and the Forum for Heritage and Culture that the MCD had altered the Jama Masjid Redeveloped Plan, a bench comprising Justices Mukul Mudgal and Manmohan directed the MCD to consult the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)and members of the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) and then submit its report in the court.
Mr Goswami told the court that the MCD had changed its plan, which it had shown earlier to the court, to serve its vested interest and the DUAC had also objected to it, rejecting the changes.
Mr Goswami said that the MCD, instead of removing the decongestion in the area, had allowed shops and squatters to come up in a big way.
Counsel for the MCD argued that the changes were made to incorporate more parking spaces.
The court said that the final plan should be approved by the ASI as well as the DUAC, only then should the project go ahead.
