HC Bench directs police commissioner to issue gun license
Chennai, Sep 30 (UNI) The Madras High Court today directed the city police Commissioner (COP) R Sekhar to grant within four weeks a gun license to AIADMK MLA V P Kalairajan considering his application favourably.
Disposing off an appeal petition filed by Mr Sekar, the First Bench Comprising Chief Justice A K Ganguly and Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla upheld a single judge's order to issue the license to Mr Kalairajan and directed the MLA to submit a fresh application to COP for the same.
The City Police Commissioner had rejected the MLA's application seeking license to possess a gun on the ground that three FIRs had been registered against him.
On a petition filed by Mr Kalairajan, a single judge of the High Court held that the cases registered against him were for political reasons, and directed the COP to issue the license to him.
Against this order, the City Police Commissioner preferred an appeal before the Bench.
