400 Government employees arrested

Puducherry, Sep 30: About 400 government employees, including 175 women were arrested on Tuesday, sep 30 when they took out a procession to picket the Puducherry Legislative Assembly.

The agitation was in protest against the alleged 'victimisation' of Balamohanan, President of the Confederation of Puducherry State Government Employees Associations by serving a notice to him four days before his retirement.

The procession, taken out from Kamban Kalai Arangam was stopped by the police in front of the Immaculate Heart of Mary's Conception Cathedral. The protesters were arrested.

CPI(M) State Secretary V Perumal and Secretary of the Federation for People's Rights G Sugumaran, who joined the proecession were also arrested.
