Cabinet meet a 'political gimmick': Dharam Singh
Gulbarga, Sep 30: Describing the BJP Government's decision of carving the new district of Yadgir out of Gulbarga as hasty, Former Chief Minister N Dharm Singh termed the Cabinet meeting held here on September 26 as a 'political gimmick.' Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Sep 30, he said the Cabinet had decided to bifurcate Gulbarga District without taking the people and the leaders of the district into confidence.
He, however, said he would not oppose the creation of the new district.
''When the committee, headed by Former Bureaucrat M S Prakash, was supposed to give its report in December after a survey of the district finalising the taluks to be added in the new district, where was the need to take such a hasty decision''? he asked.
Mr Singh also alleged the demand of the people of Yadgir and Shahapur Taluks was not taken into confidence by the government while deciding on the the headquarters of the new district.
Referring to the Cabinet's decision to set up thermal power projects near Jewargi and Bijapur, he said the projects were approved by the previous government.
He alleged that the committee to monitor the implementation of the Nanjundappa Committee recommendations on regional disparity was formed to accommodate disgruntled BJP MLAs.
He also demanded Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to announce the amount released exclusively for the development of the Hyderabad-Karnataka Region.
