Dasmunsi lays foundation stone for AIR FM stn and stadium
Chanchol, Malda, West Bengal, Sep 30 (UNI) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today laid foundation stones for a 10,000-capacity football stadium and proposed FM radio station of Akashvani Chanchol here.
In an address on the occasion, Mr Dasmunsi announced that the proposed stadium would be named after the last Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, to mark 150th anniversary of the first war of Independence in 1857.
He said various stands of this stadium would be named after the regional and local heroes. He also announced a grant of Rs. 45 lakh from his MPLAD funds for this project and informed that major public sector enterprises would pool in the rest of the required funds for the stadium.
The Minister also appealed to the locals to contribute liberally for this stadium as the north Bengal districts lacked in proper sports infrastructure.
Mr G Jailal, DG, AIR and Harravindar Singh, Engineer-in-Chief, AIR also present on the occasion, said the proposed FM station would be completed and commissioned at the earliest.
Efforts would be made to air the proposed stadium's opening ceremony live from the AIR FM Chanchol, Mr Jailal said.
