State unit Congress hits back at Advani

Guwahati, Sep 30: The Assam unit of the Congress on Tuesday, Sep 30 hit back at the BJP following Leader of the Opposition L K Advani's 'Sankalp Yatra' campaign, alleging that the NDA had miserably failed to do anything substantial for the North Eastern region.

Addressing a press conference here, State Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the entire speech of Mr Advani was a ''statement on the failure of the NDA government.'' ''Mr Advani has himself admitted that the NDA could not do anything for the world's biggest river island Majuli,'' Dr Sarma said.

However, Mr Advani, during his campaign here, had claimed the contrary and alleged that the Congress did not work for the development of Majuli.

Taking a potshot at the AGP for associating itself with the BJP, he said the party had ''not even understood the ground level politics of Assam.'' ''We are happy that they are combined now and we will have it easier this time,'' he claimed.

Dr Sarma claimed that the alliance of BJP and AGP would do more harm than good in the coming days.
