Yelagiri Express derails between Tirupattur, Jolarpettai

Chennai, Sept 29 (UNI) The engine and two coaches of Yelagiri Express derailed between Tirupattur and Jolarpettai stations early today.

The train runs from Chennai to Tirupattur via Jolarpettai and back.

After last night's arrival in Tirupattur it was shunted back to Jolarpettai station for night halt. The train was scheduled to return to Chennai this morning from Tirupattur.

The empty rakes of the train were being shunted back to Tirupattur station in the loop-line for today's journey when the derailment took place.

Senior officials rushed to the spot and restored normalcy.

Traffic on the section was not affected as the mishap took place only in the loop-line.

The passengers, who were to board the train for Chennai at Tirupattur, were accommodated in Ananthapuri Express.
