Police step up security for Navratri festivity in Maharashtra
Mumbai, Sep 29 (UNI) Following the recent bomb blasts in various parts of the country and threats of similar terror attack in the city, police have made elaborate security arrangements to tackle any eventuality during the Navratri festivities commencing from tomorrow.
Even the organisers, undeterred by the receipt of such threats, have set up 'pandals' to welcome Goddess Ambe, who is the symbol of fertility, creativity and universality.
City police top brass had held several rounds of meetings with representatives of big pandals and organisers on the matter of security. The organisers have agreed to assist them, a top police officer said here today.
Police have asked big organisers to take strict security measures, including installation of metal detectors, CCTV cameras and private security arrangements.
Navratri festival attracts youngsters and elderly alike, with people enjoying both the modern and traditional forms of 'Garba' and 'Dandiya Raas' in traditional and colourful attires.
In the city, there are more than 500 small and big pandals, which organise 'dandiya raas' during the festival, in which thousands of people participate.
