NHAI officials, contractors engage in 'blame game'

Perambalur, Sep 29 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Thuraimangalam area, near here, when a section of civil work contractors and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials had heated arguments in presence of Union Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T R Baalu, over the delay in executing a four-laning project in Perambalur.

The contractors and NHAI officials started blaming each other when the Minister, who was here to inspect the four-laning and road overbridge works, demanded explanation for the delay in executing the project works.

While the contractors pointed out some technical problems as the reason for the delay, the NHAI officials took strong objection to it.

Realising that the situation was going out of control, the Minister asked both the contractors and the officials to exercise restraint.

He also instructed the NHAI officials to send the project's progress report every Monday.
