Mayawati as PM? Karat says no problem
New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat today said his party would not mind supporting BSP supremo Mayawati as the next Prime Minister.
Faced by a barrage of queries from mediapersons at the Indian Women's Press Corps on whether Left Front would support Mayawati as the Prime Minister, Mr Karat said,''Ms Mayawati heads a party which has a possibility of getting a large number of seats. She can have a good claim. There will be no problem from our side.'' He said efforts were on to form a credible third alternative to the BJP and the Congress. ''We wont hustle for the Lok Sabha polls.
It will be our long term goal to go for adjustments with political parties for common policies. Our efforts will be only to have an understanding with various political parties at state levels.'' Mr Karat said the future of the country would not hold good if the BJP or the Congress head a coalition. ''They can not capture the variety of issues that come up. What we need a third front.''
