LIC presents nearly Rs. 20 lakh to encounter hero Sharma's family
New Delhi, Sept 29 : The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Monday presented the family of slain Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma a sum of Rs.19.98 lakhs.
LIC's Senior Divisional Manager A K Sharma personally visited Sharma's house in Dwarka and handed over cheques to his wife Maya Sharma, who was the nominee under all his insurance policies.
In a press release, the company said that the family wasn't aware about his polices, but it came forward to settle the entire insured amount.
Inspector Sharma died of excessive bleeding after leading an encounter in Delhi's Jamia Nagar on September 19,
He was a recipient of seven gallantry medals, including the President's Police Medal for Gallantry in 2003 and 2007 and Police Medals for Gallantry in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005. He also received 150 rewards for exemplary performance.
On September 15, the Central Office of LIC, issued a circular, relaxing certain requirements for simplifying the settlement process of the Delhi blast victims.
