Akshaya Patra's 6 kitchens bags ISO 22000:2005 certification

Bangalore, Sept 29 (UNI) The Akshaya Patra foundation, world's largest NGO run school meal programme, today announced that six of its kitchens have achieved FSMS ISO 22000:2005 certification.

The kitchens certified includes North Bangalore, South Bangalore, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Hubli-Dharwad and Vrindavan. This is a first of its kind certification ever to be given to a NGO managed food programme across the world, according to a release here.

Akshaya Patra currently feeds over 9.40 lakh children in over 4,500 government and Anganwadi schools across India Mr Chanchalapati Das, Vice Chairman, Akshaya Patra, said that " we are pleased and proud to get this certification. It is a culmination of our efforts to ensure that we have world class facilities to improve our service to the underprivileged children.

We consider the feeding of children not only as an obligation but also that which carries a huge responsibility" The automated kitchen of Akshaya Patra facility is a classic example of how mechanization has improved ensured quality and food safety.
