Power generation increased by 3,147 MW in MP

Bhopal, Sep 28: Power generation in Madhya Pradesh has gone up by 3,147 MW during the last four-and-half years registering 105 per cent increase as a result of efforts of the government towards power generation and distribution.

For this purpose, the present government provided Rs 939 crore share capital to the Madhya Pradesh Power Generation Company and completed construction of two mega power plants.

With this, the total power generation capacity in the state has gone up to 6,138 MW. Meanwhile, process of chalking out a strategy to increase power generation by 5,818 megawatts by 2012 has also started, an official release here said.

According to facts and figures quoted by the Energy Department, increase in power generation helped in power supply to the tune of 35,800 million units during 2007-08. This was 35 per cent more than the power supply of 27,100 million units during 2002-03.

Similarly, during 2007-08, maximum demand of 6,684 megawatt power was met which was 44 per cent more than 4,562 megawatt maximum power supplied during 2002-03, the release added.
