Rs 6.11 lakh seized from Excise officials

Hyderabad, Sep 27 (UNI) Sleuths of the ACB have seized Rs 6.11 lakh from Excise officials in the office of Excise Enforcement Squad Assistant Commissioner during surprise checks.

Acting on a tip-off that the officials were collecting mamools (donations) for Dasara, ACB officials, along with official mediators, last night intercepted Sub-Inspector Sankar Rao and Prohibition and Excise Head Constable Kareem before their residential houses at Kovur and Nellore respectively.

A release said here, Rs 4.01 lakh was recovered from the Sub-Inspector, while Rs 2.10 lakh was seized from the Head Constable. Both confessed that they were collecting 'Dasara mamools' from wine shops and bars in Nellore and Prakasham districts on behalf of the Enforcement squad.

Necessary action would be initiated against the accused, the release added.
