Pondy pvt bus operators to strike on Sep 30
Puducherry, Sep 27 (UNI) Private bus operators in Puducherry will strike work on September 30, demanding upward revision in bus fares.
In a statement here today, Private Bus Operators Association President Bharathi Kannan said for the last five years, the operators had been exerting pressure on the administration for a revision in bus fare.
Recently, the bus operators hiked the bus fares on their own after the fuel prices went up.
However, the association withdrew the hike on direction from the Lt Governor as soon as the new government assumed office in the Union Territory.
The Lt Governor had assured that the new government would consider their demand, he said.
Mr Kannan said as the new government headed by Mr V Vailthilingam had also ''failed'' to look into the matter, the operators decided to strike.
He also threatened to go on an indefinite strike from October 10, if the government again failed to consider their demand.
