Modern leaders must encourage broad-based consultations: Governor

Panaji, Sep 27 (UNI) Asserting that transparency, accountability and probity in decision making and actions make the leadership sensitive, responsive and accountable to all the stakeholders within an organisation and society, Goa Governor S S Sidhu today emphasised that modern leaders must encourage broad-based consultation and consensus in their organisation.

Speaking after inaugrating 'A New Paradigm of leadership and good goverance' organised by the Universal Peace Foundation in assoication with Goa International Centre and Institute and Institute Menezes Braganza here, Dr Sidhu said today's leaders, apart from being educated and technology-savvy, should also manifest a positive espousal of the principles of justice, equality, equity and empowerment of the people especially the weaker sections.

The pursuit of transformation is not without its attendant challenge. The major obstacle to any positive and progressive change comes from the tradtionally dominant groups, who have been the beneficiaries of the prevailing socio-political order, he said.

Chief Minister Digamber Kamat said good leaders must have good qualities and must be a good human being. A leader must take in confidence all the sections before arrivng at any decision.

Eduardo Faleiro, Chairman of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) of India, said the Foundation has held more than 40 international leadership conferences world over.

This year, UPF will hold such ledership conference in 12 states in the country. So far, conferances have been held in Sikkim, Chennai, Cochin, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Guwahati, he added.

North Goa MP Shripad Naik, GPCC president Subhash Shirodkar also spoke on the occasion.
