M M Pallamraju calls for collaboration

Kakinada, Sep 27: Union Minister of State for Defence M M Pallamraju on Sautrday, Sep 27 stressed the need for collaboration between Universities and industries to carry out research in the field of defence more effectively and purposefully.

Laying the foundation stone for the Centre for Defence Studies in the Jawahar Lal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) here, he said, ''industrial companies have their own R &D units but theoretical knowledge and professional calibre was with the universities. There is a void between knowledge and practical application due to lack of proper collaboration. The UGC also wants the knowledge to be shared by collaborative projects.'' The minister called upon the Universities to come up with clearcut ideas and innovative projects for attracting the participation of Industries.

JNTU Vice-Chancellor Allam Apparao said the DRDO had sanctioned two projects to JNTU and the collaboration was likely to go up further in the coming years. The JNTU was planning to start courses in atomic energy with the support of Atomic Energy Commission.
