Four children die due to vaccine reaction

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Sep 27 (UNI) Four children, in the age group of nine to 12 months, died at Waghola village in Phulambri tehsil of the district today due to reaction of measles vaccine.

According to the sources, the health department of Zilla Parishad (ZP) administered the measles vaccine to 10 children in the Waghola village yesterday. After vaccination, the children started vomiting and had running fever. When their condition deteriorated, they were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where three of them died this morning.

The deceased were identified as Krishna Somnath (12 months), Kalyani Baburao Gaikwad (10 months), Parmeshwar Rangnath (10 months) and Shubham Nagesh Gaikwad (12 months).

The condition of the remaining six children, who are undergoing treatment at GMCH, is stated to be critical.

''The batch number of the vaccine is 1726. The health department has directed all its officials in Marathwada region to stop the use of this batch of vaccine,'' said deputy director of health Dr M I J Qazi.
