CBI cross-questions Sudhakar, Abid for 7th consecutive day

Siddharthnagar, Sep 27 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation probing the multi-crore SBI Dumariyaganj fake currency case, continued interrogation of the prime accused Sudhakar Tripathi and co-accused Abid Sheikh for the seventh consecutive day today.

According to official sources, the CBI team had completed it's first round of interrogation with the bank employees So far, the team had cross-questioned over 24 people, besides scanning the bank documents.

On July 29, STF of the Uttar Pradesh Police had held SBI cashier Sudhakar Tripathi and seized Rs 7,21,000, including fake notes worth Rs 5,000 from his house and later requested the RBI for currency screening in the SBI branch.

On August 5, a team of senior RBI officials reached the SBI Dumariyaganj chest and seized counterfeit Indian currency worth Rs 20 lakh in Siddharthnagar district.

On August 7, the Uttar Pradesh government had ordered probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the multi-crore rupees fake currency racket, however, on realising the seriousness of the case, the state government had recommended investigation by the CBI the very next day.

The investigation into the fake currency racket had slowed down after the CBI took least interest to peep into the case.

However, on September 16, CBI gave a nod to take up the case.
