Assam celebrates World Tourism Day

Guwahati, Sep 27 (UNI) Assam today joined in celebrating World Tourism Day, marking the occasion with an array of functions across the state.

State Tourism Minister Rockybul Hussain led the celebrations at the capital city Guwahati, by flagging off a rally in the morning.

Cine artists of the state, including veteran actor Nipon Goswami and present day stars Barsha Rani Bishaya, Nishita Goswami and Kapil Bora, participated in the rally.

A food festival was also organised in the city by the state Tourism department where the top chefs of the best hotels of the city displayed their culinary skills.

Besides, painting and debate competitions were also organised among school and college students in the city.

Mr Hussain also addressed a public meeting held in the evening to wrap up the celebrations.

Tourism is a major revenue earning sector for the state, especially in the wildlife sector and religious circuits.
