Pondy: Villagers protest against death trap divider
Puducherry, Sep 26: Alleging that the road divider at Kalapet was becoming a death trap, the villagers of Kalapet on Friday, Sep 26 put up a road blockade on the East Coast Road, demanding its immediate removal.
According to the villagers, frequent accidents were occurred because of the road divider at Kalapet and this morning a tanker coming from the Chennai port with palmoline oil, overturned, hitting the road divider. Police intervened and assured them that steps would be taken to remove the road divider, following which they dropped their agitation.
Meanwhile, Thazildar Ramesh in a release here today called upon the people not to use palmoline oil for cooking, since it was not purified and would cause disease.
