SI, Constable held in bribery case, one convicted
Hyderabad, Sep 26 (UNI) A Sub-Inspector of town police station in Khammam district and a constable of Dummugudem police station were arrested by ACB officials for accepting bribe from a complainant for doing an official favour.
A press release here today said ACB officials arrested SI Belagani Srinivas Rao yesterday for accepting Rs 8,000 from a complainant through Constable Rajolu Srisailam. The tainted amount was recovered.
Both would be produced before Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Hyderabad, the release added.
Meanwhile, in another case, Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases, here, convicted and sentenced former NPDCL Additional Assistant Engineer N Thirumala Chary to one-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 750 for the offence under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
He was also sentenced to six-month rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 750 under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
In case of default in payment of fine he would have to undergo one-month simple imprisonment. Both the sentences would run concurrently, the Judge said.
ACB officials trapped the accused in May 2003 when he accepted Rs 1,500 from the complainant for doing an official favour, the release added.
