Rare whale-shark hunted; five arrested

Kannur, Sep 26 (UNI) Five people have been arrested for hunting a whale-shark, a threatened species facing extinction.

Kannavam forest range officer P K Anup Kumar registered cases against four fishermen and a businessman on September 23 under provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 for hunting the rare species, which weighed about 2,500 kg.
