NERIST into troubled waters
Itanagar, Sep 26: The North East Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), a premier institute of the region, is running into rough weather as various organisations, resorting to indefinite strike since Thursday, Sep 25 have been demanding termination of its registrar.
The organisations, namely Students Union NERIST (SUN), NERIST Arunachalee Employees Welfare Association (NAEWA), NERIST Employees Union (NEU) and NERIST Technical Staff Union (NTSU), started indefinite strike demanding suspension of Mr Ashok Singh.
The academic activities and administrative functioning of the deemed university were totally crippled following the strike.
''The strike will continue until Mr Singh is suspended,'' the organisations said while alleging that the Registrar did not fulfill the criteria for the post at the time of his appointment and also directed the police forces to enter the institute.
Meanwhile, state chief secretary Tabom Bam on Thursday, Sep 24 appointed Dr Joram Begi, Director of Higher and Technical Education, as the In-charge director of NERIST as Professor Kalyan Kumar, the sitting director, was asked to proceed on leave pending an inquiry against him.
