Left Front observed protest day against nuke deal
Agartala, Sep 26 (UNI) Left Front in Tripura has observed protest day against Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's move to sign civil nuclear deal with US yesterday.
They organised a rally here at the time when Dr Singh held meeting with US President George Bush in Washington to formulate the entire range of issues related to civil nuclear initiative.
Veteran communist leader Baidyanath Majumder alleged that Congress led UPA government has moved forward to make happy the Americans ignoring India's nuclear sovereignty as well as country's security.
He, however, said that left parties had been trying to convince the UPA government on pro-people economic agendas and ill affects of the privatisation but UPA government has signed at least three agreements with US which are- Defence pact in 2005, Economic agreement in 2006 and Nuclear deal in 2007 without consulting left parties.
''After signing the agreement America will destroy our defence freedom and sovereignty like Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan'' Mr Majumder pointed out.
