HC directive to TDB on security
Kochi, Sep 26 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today directed the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB)to spend Rs 4.72 crore provisionally to purchase security equipment for the use of police during the 2008-09 Sabarimala season starting in the middle of November.
A Division Bench comprising Mr Justices P R Raman and T R Ramachandrnan Nair also directed the DGP to depute a senior officer to supervise the use of the equipment.
The court gave the directions in pursuance of a report, submitted by Additional DGP to the Devaswom Ombudsman, specifying the need for more security for the temple, in view of attacks by terrorists and anti-social elements, during 2008-09 festival season.
The court directed the TDB to provide additional facilities to security personnel to be deployed in case of emergency.
For the smooth conduct of the Sabarimala season, coordination between various departments and proper implementation of schemes was necessary, the court said.
