Employment fair in Jalandhar to focus on rural Punjabi youth
Jalandhar, Sep 26 (UNI) Jalandhar Chamber of Industries and Commerce today announced to hold an Employment Fair here in which large number of local unskilled and skilled labourers would be employed with special emphasis to unemployed Punjabi rural youth.
Expressing grave concern over labour shortage at local level, President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Narinder Sehgal said at a press meet here that as about 75 per cent of the persent labourer force were migrants, a crisis arises whenever they go on long leave to visit their native places.
''Employing locals ensure that labour was available for the whole year and industry work would not suffer,'' he said.
"If we received near about 5000 application for employment, I can assure that all will be filled suitably" Sehgal claims.
He further revealed that they had already contacted the local industrialists and the vacancies in their units would be displayed on the board during the employment fair. Those candidated who failed to get a job, would be called in the next fair also, he said.
Cabinet Minister Manoranjan Kalia and Deputy Commissioner, A S Pannu would address the employment fair to be held at District Industries Centre at Focal point.
Charanjit Singh Maingi, General Secretary of the Chamber revealed that initially the chamber has invited applications under six categories including Security Personnel, Computer Operators, Foundrymen, Electricians, Mechanical Engineer apart from other technical persons, who needed special training, Deputy Commissioner A S Pannu said that in this fair youth getting treatment in De-addiction centre would also be invited for employment as unemployment was a major cause of youth being drawn to intoxication.
