BSNL to launch IPTV in Orissa in June next year

Bhubaneswar, Sep 26 (UNI) Telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will launch IPTV in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack by June next, Orissa Telecom Circle Chief General Manager Subash Chandra Joshi announced here today.

Launching the prepaid CDMA service for the existing WLL customer and a new prepaid starter pack for the Orissa customers, Mr Joshi said the testing and other preliminary works for the IPTV would commence by March next year.

He said the Smart DG Vision and Smart TVB have been chosen as the content provider for launching the IPTV in Orissa which would be made available to the 16,000 broadband consumers in Bhubaneswar and 7,000 broadband consumers in Cuttack.

Later the facilities would be extended to other major cities of the state, including Rourkela and Sambalpur.

Mr Joshi said the Orissa Telecom circle would implement the Rural Broadband project to cover rural exchanges in remote areas so that all the block headquarters, tehsils and grampanchayats are covered by December 2008.

With the commissioning of the rural project the capacity of the Broadband would be increased from one lakh to 1,25,000. Presently the Broadband services, he said, is available in 150 blocks covering 185 cities spread over 366 exchanges.

The Orissa Telecom Circle, he further said, would also like to introduce the video on demand to Broadband consumers in the state.

This apart, colour ID phones would be introduced by December 2008 for which already 10,000 colour Id phones had been diverted from Kolkata, Mr Joshi said.
