Two youths sentenced to death for killing seven-year-old girl

Barrackpore, Sep 25 (UNI) Two youths, after being convicted for killing a seven-year-old girl two years ago, were today sentenced to death by a court here.

Additional district and sessions judge Partha Sarathi Mukherjee passed the order of capital punishment for Bappa Das (20), cousin of the victim, and Biswajit Sadhukhan alias Bubai (20).

Another youth Rajat Adhikary, also convicted in the murder, was remanded into a juvenile court for further consideration as he was a minor.

The trio was found guilty for killing Sharmistha Das (7) of Shyamnagar, under 24-North Parganas, on November 26, 2006.

The three seduced the girl from her home and took her to a nearby area and stragulated her to death. Her body was found next morning.

The judge also ordered seven years' imprisonment for both the convicts -Bappa and Biswajit- and fine of Rs 5,000 each or in default an additional two years imprisonment.

Public prosecutor Pritwish Dasgupta said the case was initiated with the Jagaddal police station on November 26, 2006 following brutal killing of the girl.
