Tension mounts as TRS activists waylay Pranab's convoy
Nizamabad, Sep 25 (UNI) Irate activists of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti(TRS) demanding Statehood for Telangana today blocked External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and his convoy near the 'Railway Kaman', about 20 km from here and one of the activists was injured after being rammed by a vehicle in the moving convoy.
Mr Mukherjee, who heads the sub-committee constituted by the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government on the Statehood issue, was going to town to attend the ''Shastipoorthi''(60th birthday) of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee(APCC) President D Srinivas, in his native place.
Even as the policemen were pulling away slogan-shouting TRS activists, who waylaid the convoy, one of the vehicles behind the Union Minister, reportedly belonging to Congress MP, Lagadapati Rajagopal hit activists, injuring one of them. The MP, however, claimed that the vehicle in the incident was not his.
A group of activists in Hyderabad, allegedly belonging to the TRS, attacked with stones the Lanco Group of Industries on the Banjara hills, damaging the glass and window-panes in protest. The group, however, fled when the police rushed to the scene.
