Free zone status for educational institutes: Students

Imphal, Sep 25: The All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) and the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) have demanded a free zone status for all educational institutes in the state.

The student bodies appealed to all not to interfere in the functioning of educational institutes.

Of late various educational institutes in the state have been forced to close down due to monetary demands by suspected militants.

The two student bodies said all concerned should assure within one month's time not to disturb the academic atmosphere.

AMSU secretary Leishangthem Sanjit said suspected militants locked up the office of the Principal of the DM College, Imphal.

The DESAM had also organised a massive rally recently to demand free zone status for all educational institutes.
