SC bench transfers Amarinder's petition to another bench
New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) A Supreme Court bench comprising Justices C K Thakker and D K Jain today transferred the petition of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, challenging his expulsion from Punjab State Assembly for his alleged involvement in Amritsar land scam, to some other bench.
Justice D K Jain was the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court before his elevation to the apex court.
The petition will now come up for hearing tomorrow before the bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, who may mark it to some other appropRiate bench for disposal.
Congress MLA Amarinder Singh had earlier challenged his expulsion in the High Court. The High Court, however, refused to stay his expulsion from the Assembly. Now he has come to the Supreme Court against the order of the High Court, declining to stay his expulsion from the Assembly.
