Orissa asked to take 'effective, focused and firm' measures

New Delhi, Sept 25 (UNI) The Centre has asked Orissa Government to take 'effective, focused and firm measures' to bring normalcy and to stop continuing violence against minority community members in Kandhamal district.

A communication to this effect was sent to the state government by Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta asking it to take measures like identification and apprehension of elements continuing to stoke communal violence and hatred and indulging in disruptive activities.

Repeated violent incidents were indicating that the anti-social elements were continuing to be active and it can't be allowed to continue, an Ministry sources said. The Centre had sought a detailed report from Orissa Government.

The ministry also called for stringent action against all those arrested for violence and bring them to justice. Precautionary and preventive measures like patrolling of vulnerable areas were also necessary. The state had been asked to review the situation and action taken by the law enforcement agencies and issue strict instructions to all concerned to ensure that prevailing situation was brought under control. The availability of 43 companies of CRPF made available to Orissa Govenrment have to be effectively deployed and used to optimise the scope of untilisation and deployment of these forces, a Home Ministry relese said.
