National transport policy soon
Vijayawada, Sep 25 (UNI) A National policy would be soon announced to strengthen the public transport system in the country, Kerala State Transport Minister Mathew T Thomas said today.
Addressing mediapersons here, he said the Southern states transport ministers have already discussed the policy and it will be finalised after discussions with other states in the country.
Referring to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), he said the KSRTC has 4,000 buses. The organisation has planned to purchase 1,000 new buses every year through open tender. The Corporation had purchased 1,000 buses this year through open tenders.
The minister who was here to attend a state conference of staff and workers federation of APSRTC employees said the Corporation has also planned to introduce Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) buses soon in Kerala.
