Kerala to convert State Electricity Board into single company
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 25 (UNI) The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala today decided to convert the State Electricity Board into a single company as the Centre's deadline for unbundling it expired yesterday.
A notification in this regard is expected to be issued soon.
The decision was taken at an all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, which was boycotted by the Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).
The NCP and BJP also attended the meeting. However, the BJP walked out alleging that the government was not willing to take other parties into confidence on the matter.
The UDF had yesterday turned down the invitation for the meeting saying that there was no need for an all-party meeting after a decision in this regard was taken by the State Cabinet.
The State Government decided to convert the Board into a single company as against the Centre's directive to divide it into three separate companies for generation, transmission and distribution.
