Banking services disrupted for second day
Shillong, Sep 25 (UNI) The second day of the 48-hour nationwide public sector bank strike today paralysed banking services throughout Meghalaya.
Public sector banks, including the SBI, wore a deserted look as all its gates and doors remained closed.
The two-day strike caused hardships to common people, particularly the business community, in view of the festive season.
Transactions in some ATM counters were also hit due to the strike.
There was, however, no report of any untoward incident so far.
Private sector as well as state government-owned banks, including Cooperative Banks, however, functioned normally.
The strike has been called by the United Forum of Banks Union (UFBU) in protest against the proposed privatisation of public sector undertaking banks, government's plan to merge banks, implementation of MoU between Indian Banks Association (IBA) and UFBU on issue of one more option for pension to provident Fund (PF) and announcement of pension benefits for its employees.
