Banking hit in Pondy

Puducherry, Sep 25 (UNI) Banking operations in the Union Territory came to a standstill today as the two-day nation wide strike by the Federation of Bank Employees and Officers Associations entered the second day.

Members of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) are protesting against the merger of banks and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in public sector banks.

About 3,000 employees of 65 bank branches in Puducherry struck work and assembled in front of the UCO Bank where they staged a dharna.

The ATM services were also affected, causing hardships to traders and general public.
