POTA a failed law: Rahul Gandhi
Bhatinda, Sep 24: Addressing the media on the last day of his tour to Punjab, in Bhatinda, AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, Sep 24 spoke out on various issues, including that of terror.
Rahul Gandhi echoed the government's sentiments stating POTA was a failed law that had endangered Parliament and politicians and so the Government was not exploring the option of bringing it back. He said India required a tougher anti-terror law "POTA is a failed law. When POTA was in operation, our Parliament got attacked. We almost lost members of our Parliament," Rahul Gandhi said.
"We almost lost our PM, our Home Minister. When POTA was in operation, we had the Kandahar (hijacking). In Kandahar the government gave in to the demands of terrorism. Those gentlemen who were responsible for the terrorist act carried out further terrorist acts. With regard to whether there should be a strong terror law, there should be one - but POTA is a failed one," Rahul Gandhi added.
