India's teledensity touches 30 pc
New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) India added 9.03 million telephone connections in August 2008 taking the nation's teledensity to 29.83 per cent, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said today.
Total number of telephone connections reached 343.87 million at August-end as compared to 334.84 million in July 2008, Trai added.
While the number of mobile telephones went up by 9.16 million in August, taking the total to 305.24 million, the number of landline telephone in the country declined to 38.83 million in August from 38,76 million in the previous month. The monthly addition of mobile telephone last month was, however, also less than 9.22 million added in July, the regulator said.
Broadband subscribers base in the country reached 4.73 million last month, it added.
