Banking operations in Puducherry hit

Puducherry, Sep 24: Banking operations in the Union Territory of Puducherry came to a standstill as the two-day nationwide strike by the Federation of bank employees and officers associations began today.

Members of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) are protesting against the merger of banks and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in public sector banks.

About 3,000 employees of 65 bank branches in Puducherry struck work and assembled in front of the UCO bank today where they staged a dharna.

Even though, the ATM service is functioning, it is expected that the service is likely to be affected tomorrow as cash could not be placed into them.
