Assam CM appears before court

Guwahati, Sep 24 (UNI) Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today appeared before a sessions court in regard to a defamation case he had filed against the Asomiya Pratidin, a local daily.

This was the first time Mr Gogoi appeared before any court of law after he became the Chief Minister in 2001.

Mr Gogoi filed the case against the daily as the paper filed a report linking him with a controversial business group- Pithanis.

The Chief Minister took offence with the report and sought judgement with the court of law.

Mr Gogoi denied any involvement and filed a multi-crore case.

He was questioned by Partidin lawyer Girish Baishya and Chief Minister was represented by veteran advocate Kamal Narayan Choudhury.
