PWD office picketed seeking basic amenities

Puducherry, Sep 23(UNI) Tension prevailed at Ariyankuppam near here today as a group of people led by former legislator picketed the Public Works Department(PWD) office at Ariyankuppam, seeking basic amenities, as another group led by the present legislator Anantharaman organised a counter picketing.

Police said the former legislator Jayamurthy had announced the agitation and accordingly organised it by submitting a memorandum to the PWD officials.To counter this, Mr Anantharaman and his supporters organised picketing.

The supporters of both Mr Jayamurthy and Anantharaman thronged their houses in the same area, causing tension.

The police later intervened and dispersed the crowd.
