Pondy GH performs ninth kidney transplant

Puducherry, Sep 23 (UNI) The ninth kidney transplantation was today performed at the Government General Hospital, Health Minister E Valsaraj said here.

Talking to newspersons, Mr Valsaraj said the surgery was performed on Ms Gowri(31) of Karaikal Region with her husband Muthu Stalin being the donor. A team of doctors led by renowned surgeon, Dr Chandrasekeran, from Chennai performed the surgery.

Mr Valsaraj said the surgery, which would cost around Rs four to five lakh in private sector, was done free of cost.

The immunosupressive drugs, costing Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 a month, was being provided to the patients free of cost.

All the eight people who had undergone transplantation surgery here were healty and the adminsitration had invited them on the occasion of World Kidney Day and had an interaction.

He also said the Cath Lab here was under trial run and would soon be inaugurated.
