HAREDA to sign MoUs with six Independent Power Producers

Chandigarh, Sept 23 (UNI) The Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) today said it will sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with six Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to generate 12 MW power from solar energy.

An official spokesman of HAREDA said the MoUs will be signed tomorrow with Delhi-based RS India Wind Energy Pvt Ltd and Estonfield Renewable Resources Pvt Ltd of Kolkatta each for setting up solar power projects of three MW capacity, with Delhi-based companies -- Epuron Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd and Azure Power India -- for setting up solar power projects of two MW capacity.

In addition, MoUs will also be signed with Omax Auto Ltd of Gurgaon and Faridabad-based Selecto Systems Pvt Ltd each for setting up solar power projects of one MW capacity as a special case, as these projects being the rooftop projects do not require any purchase of land, can be commissioned in shorter span of time and can be showcased for replication in other industries.

These projects will be set up by these power developers before December 2009 with a total investment of about Rs 240 crore.

The power produced from these projects will be fed to the state grid for which the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission has already issued the tariff order for purchase of power from Solar PV Projects.

This power will be purchased by the state utilities at the rate of Rs 15.96 per unit, out of which Rs 12 per unit will be provided by the Union Ministry of New Renewable Energy as generation based incentives under its Grid Interactive Solar PV Generation Programme.

The spokesman informed that the solar radiation level in the state is in the range of 5.5 KWH to 6.5 KWH per square meter of area and the state has about 320 clear sunny days in a year. This offers a great potential for using solar energy for various thermal and electrical energy applications in the state.
