Centre serious about checking attacks on minorities: Rahul
Gurdaspur, Sep 23 (UNI) Congress General Secretary and MP Rahul Gandhi today said that the Centre had taken a serious view of the recent attacks on religious places in Orissa and was taking strong measures to prevent the occurence of such incidents in future.
Mr Gandhi, who was interacting with girl students here on the second day of his Punjab tour, said that the entire nation had condemned the Orissa incidents.
He was asked by a girl about the steps that the Centre had taken to deal with disturbing incidents like attacks on minorities in Orissa and some other places.
Sharing her concern, Mr Gandhi said that the Centre was seized of the matter and had held consultations with the state government to chalk out effective steps to prevent such abominable incidents in future.
He also appealed to the young generations to maintain communal harmony and fight the divisive forces unitedly.
To another query of the students regarding poor standard of education in the nation, Mr Gandhi said that though the Centre was allocating a large amount of money to the states, the states government were not implementing the educational projects effectively.
He also said that the Centre was also planning to launch many more projects to boost the level of education in the country.
A woman resident of Kalanaur region complained to Mr Gandhi that during Panchayat polls rival Congress workers had attacked each other and no action was taken so far by the local party officials against the guilty so far.
Mr Gandhi asked her to give a detailed complain to him in writing and assured her that such indiscipline would not be tolerated at all.
