AICC denies Rahul statement on PM

New Delhi, Sep 23 (UNI) The All India Congress Committee (AICC) today denied press reports attributing a statement to AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi that the question of his elevation to the premiership would remain 'open and not closed.' ''The statement attributed to Mr Gandhi is not correct,'' AICC Media Department Chairman Veerappa Moily said in a release here.

Some newspapers attributed the statement to Mr Gandhi who allegedly made it while replying to questions from the students in Punjabi University.

''While addressing the 1500 strong students at Punjabi University, Patiala, Mr Gandhi categorically stated that he is not focusing on post and position and he is focusing at present only on building the Youth Congress and Student Organisations,'' Mr Moily said, while pointing out that no TV crew or mediapersons were present in the Punjabi University function.
