2 dead, 5 injured as truck runs over them in Bengal

Hooghly, Sep 23 (UNI) At least two people were killed and five others seriously injured when a truck ran over them at G T road near Belting bazaar here this morning.

Srerampore SDPO Ajay Thakur said the accident occurred when the truck driver lost control over his vehicle and ran over some pedestrians, killing two of them on the spot.

The injured were rushed to the Srerampore Walls hospital in serious condition.

The truck has been seized, the SDPO said. However, the driver managed to flee.

A case had been lodged and an investigation started, the SDPO added.

Meanwhile, local residents blocked the road for about an hour in protest against the incident.

Later, a police contingent rushed to the spot and lifted the blockade.
